This ad for Formula 409 is supposed to be funny. The problem is that it took me a long time to figure out what they were saying. Most readers would probably just scratch their heads and turn the page.
The message is that Formula 409 is so strong that when the manufacturer tried to improve it, the new formula blew up the test lab.
It’s an ugly ad. People probably aren’t going to get the message. Why not skip the attempt at humor and say something good about the product, instead?
